Punjab

Lahore – The Great Mughal City

Tour Overview

Lahore, the second-largest city in Pakistan and the capital of Punjab province, is the cultural and academic heart of the country. Known as the Mughal “show-window” of Pakistan, Lahore lies on the historic trade and invasion routes to the Indian subcontinent. Over the centuries, it has been ruled, enriched, and plundered by various dynasties and conquerors. However, Lahore reached the height of its glory under the Mughals.
The Mughal emperors, known for their love of architecture, gifted Lahore with some of its finest monuments—many of which still stand today.

Days 2 & 3 – Lahore and Surroundings

Spend two full days exploring Lahore—one of Pakistan’s oldest cities and cultural capital. Known as the “Garden of the Mughal Empire,” the city boasts some of the finest surviving Mughal monuments.
You will have time to walk through the bustling narrow alleyways of the old city and visit the following highlights:

Badshahi Mosque (1673)

The largest medieval mosque in the world, built by Emperor Aurangzeb. It is the crown jewel of Mughal architecture in Lahore.

Lahore Fort

A splendid example of Mughal architectural mastery. Partially built by Emperor Akbar (1556–1605) and later expanded by his successors.

Jahangir’s Tomb (1627–1637)

Built by Emperor Shah Jahan in honor of his father, Jahangir. It is the only Mughal imperial tomb located in present-day Pakistan and holds great historical significance.

Shalimar Garden

Constructed during the Mughal Empire’s artistic peak. These terraced gardens are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Pakistan’s most beloved attractions.

Wazir Khan Mosque (17th century)

Commissioned by Shah Jahan, this mosque is renowned for its vibrant frescoes and intricate tile work, making it one of the most beautifully decorated mosques of the Mughal era.

Anarkali Bazaar

One of the oldest surviving markets in South Asia (over 200 years old). A great place for local shopping at budget-friendly prices.

Lahore Museum

Built during the British colonial period, it houses Pakistan’s largest and oldest collection of historical, cultural, and artistic artifacts, including Gandhara sculptures, miniature paintings, rare manuscripts, and ancient coins.

Wagah Border Ceremony

No visit to Lahore is complete without witnessing the famous flag-lowering ceremony at the Pakistan–India border. Every evening, soldiers from both countries perform a highly synchronized and spirited military display. The patriotic atmosphere and energy make it an unforgettable experience. Overnight in Lahore
