Tour Overview

Visiting Pakistan is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, especially the northern region known as Gilgit-Baltistan. It is surrounded by majestic snow-capped mountains, deep-colored rivers, serene lakes, and massive glaciers, making it one of the best destinations for nature lovers and adventure seekers. In the north, you will explore the stunning landscapes of Gilgit, Nagar, and the iconic Hunza Valley. The tour also includes a three-day trekking or horse-riding journey to Fairy Meadows, located at the foot of the mighty Nanga Parbat (8,126 m), the second-highest mountain in Pakistan and the ninth-highest in the world. Additionally, you will travel through the Karakoram Mountains to reach the Khunjerab Pass (Pakistan–China border), located at 4,700 meters. It is known as the highest international border crossing and marks the end of the Karakoram Highway (887 km) within Pakistan.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Islamabad

Meet at the airport, transfer to the hotel, and rest. If arrival is during the daytime,
enjoy a city tour of Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
Overnight in Islamabad/Rawalpindi

Day 2 – Islamabad to Gilgit

Early morning scenic flight to Gilgit with dramatic views of the Hindukush and western Himalayas. Transfer to hotel for check-in and breakfast.
Gilgit (1,500 m) is ideal for acclimatization before heading to higher altitudes. We will visit:

  • 7th-century Buddha rock carving in Basin Valley

  • Chinese cemetery (resting place of KKH workers)

  • In the afternoon, stroll through the local bazaar and visit the mini China market.
    Note : This day is reserved in case the domestic flight is delayed due to weather. If cancelled, we will drive to Chilas instead.
    Overnight in Gilgit

    Day 3 – Gilgit to Karimabad (Hunza Valley)

    Drive north to Karimabad, the capital of Hunza Valley, surrounded by the Karakoram peaks. Along the way:

  • View ancient Silk Route traces
  • Stop at Rakaposhi viewpoint (7,788 m)
  • Upon arrival:
    Visit 700-year-old Baltit Fort (former royal residence, now a museum)
    Explore Karimabad Bazaar for local crafts and dry fruits
    Enjoy sunset views from local cafés
    Overnight in Karimabad

    Day 4 – Attabad Lake & Passu Valley

    Travel through upper Hunza via:

  • Attabad Lake (formed by 2010 landslide; optional boat ride)

  • Hussaini Hanging Bridge

  • Borit Lake

  • Short walk to Passu Glacier

  • Lunch at Glacier Breeze Restaurant with views of the Passu Cones (>6,000 m)

  • Afternoon walk around Passu Valley.
    Overnight in Passu

    Day 5 – Excursion to Khunjerab Pass (4,700 m)

    Drive through Khunjerab National Park to Khunjerab Pass, the highest international border crossing between Pakistan and China. Possible wildlife sightings: ibex, marmot, snow leopard.
    Return to Karimabad, then continue uphill to Duikar village for sunset views over Hunza Valley.
    Overnight in Karimabad

    Day 6 – Hunza to Naltar Valley to Gilgit

    Drive to Nomal village and transfer to 4WD Jeeps. Off-road drive through Rocky Mountains to Naltar Valley (3,000 m), famous for snow-capped peaks and a ski resort.
    Continue to Naltar Lake (also called Green Lake or Rainbow Lake), surrounded by pine forests.
    Overnight in Gilgit

    Day 7 – Gilgit to Fairy Meadows (West Himalayas)

    Drive to the junction of the Karakoram, Himalaya, and Hindu Kush mountain ranges. Continue to Raikot Bridge, then transfer to local Jeep for an adventurous (but safe) ride to Tato Village.
    Have a quick lunch, then trek 3 hours to Fairy Meadows (horse riding available). Porters are available for baggage. Only warm clothing for 2 days is needed; extra luggage can stay in the car.
    Accommodation at pine huts with basic services (meals and bonfire).
    Overnight in alpine huts

    Day 8 – Fairy Meadows

    Enjoy panoramic views of Nanga Parbat and the surrounding ranges.
    Options:

  • Easy walk around Fairy Meadows

  • Trek to Raikot Glacier viewpoint or Nanga Parbat Base Camp (return the same day)

  • Horse riding available up to the viewpoint

  • Overnight in alpine huts

    Day 9 – Fairy Meadows to Besham / Naran

    Trek down to Jeep point, return to Karakoram Highway, and drive toward Islamabad. Stop in Besham to break the long journey.
    If traveling between mid-June and early October:
    Take the shorter route via Babusar Pass (4,173 m) and stay in Naran.
    If the pass is closed:
    Use the all-season traditional route.
    Overnight in Besham or Naran

    Day 10 – Besham / Naran to Islamabad

    Complete the journey to Islamabad. Transfer to hotel for rest and shower. In the evening, enjoy dinner at the famous food street in Islamabad or Rawalpindi (twin cities: Islamabad is modern; Rawalpindi is historic and lively).
    Overnight in Islamabad / Rawalpindi
